Hello from Costa Brava, my lovelies!
After two weeks of super intensive and busy schedule with Spanish classes and other projects I have been working on, we finally managed to go for our long-awaited Costa Brava getaway.
Costa Brava, which is located in Northern Spain, is stated to be one of the most romantic, inspirational and unspoiled coastlines. One of the most exceptional villages there, which The Telegraph defined as the one place in Costa Brava with the best Blue Flag beaches in Europe, is called “Calella de Palafrugell”. This is precisely why we decided to visit this place and it definitely proved to be a hidden treasure.
As soon as we arrived, I was mesmerized! It is only an hour and a half drive from Barcelona, but it definitely felt like we are no longer in Spain. It was filled with white-blue houses, covered up with flowers and surrounded by wide sandy beaches and clear blue water. We didn’t make a specific plan of what to visit and as there were literally just a few people and everything was so beautiful, we could walk around forever.
It was lunch time and we were already pretty hungry, so we decided to go to a place called “La Blava”. It was probably the cutest restaurant I have been to recently! It was all white and blue with cute small flowers on the tables and an extremely beautiful interior design. However, the weather was more than perfect so we decided to sit outside. We ordered mussels in white wine, mango and avocado salad and an amazing grilled octopus. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
It was the perfect lunch spot, not only for its design and the delicious food, but also for its location. It was right on “Platja de les Barques”, which was one cute small beach filled with colourful fishing boats. This unique beach made me realize why Costa Brava is considered to be the best place for artists to get inspired. Everything looked like from a painting!
After lunch we continued enjoying the beautiful architecture and the peaceful environment. Calella de Palafrugell’s small streets were so picturesque with their Mediterranean houses, flowers and cute souvenir shops.
I fell in love with this shop called “Carla Llimona”. I really wanted to buy one amazing handmade straw bag and a few souvenirs for home, but as we didn’t want to carry them the whole day, we ended up forgetting to come back for them. I feel like this is the perfect excuse to go back again soon!
We walked to a beach called “El Canadell i Els Canyissos”. I guess this was the biggest beach in the area and it was surrounded by beautiful houses and was filled with garages for boats. I suppose that by saying garages you imagine something unpleasant, but it was actually cute small colourful doors, scattered around the beach, making it so photo friendly and in a unique way was strengthening the Mediterranean touch! Honestly I just loved this atmosphere so much!
This “pueblo blanco” or as locals refer to these white villages, was stretched around so many beaches that I couldn’t even remember all of their names. It was just a combination of white-blue houses, colourful doors, sandy beaches and picture perfect places all around. I felt like I am part of a Mediterranean fairy tale!
I was so sad to leave this place, but having the perfect excuse, I think we would be coming back very soon! On the way back to Barcelona we stopped at a town, called Palamós, for a short walk and to have an ice-cream on the beach. Right by the road there were so many flower field and of course we couldn’t miss to stop and take photos in the dancing poppies.
We just loved the inspiring Costa Brava getaway and I definitely recommend this hidden Mediterranean paradise!!!
