Hello from Menorca, my lovelies!
Since our cancelled trip to Lisbon, I have been looking forward to our next getaway. I just love being by the sea and exploring new and unique beaches and that’s why we chose the virgin island of Menorca. It is part of the three Balearic Islands literally 55minutes away from Barcelona and is said to be the wildest and unspoiled islands of them all.
Thinking about white sand, turquoise water and having salty hair all the time got me so excited, but unfortunately we arrived to the island to a quite disappointing weather and lots of rain. However, the gorgeous nature and the cute little towns, we saw on the way to the hotel, got me cheered up a little.
As Menorca’s best wild beaches are located in the western part of the island, we decided to stay in a very small town there, called “Cala Galdana”. It was only 30 minutes away by car from the Mahon airport, but not only the travel was so picturesque, but also this town was literally in the heart of all the virgin beaches.
The first day was mainly spent in the hotel, having so much food, relaxing, going to the gym and planning what to explore in the next few days. Thankfully, the next morning we woke up to a sunny and warm Menorca! We had breakfast and immediately put on swimsuits and went on to explore the beaches. The guys from our hotel ‘Artiem Audax’ were so sweet and explained to us in details how to get to even to most secret and beautiful beaches!!!
After a little hike and walk through a very calm small forest following the path “Cami de Cavalls”, we arrived at “Cala Macarella”. Locals said that this beach and the other Menorca’s best wild beaches are usually super busy during the peak of the season, but we were lucky and there were just a few people literally taking photos and passing by.
It was such a breath-taking place in the middle of two huge rocks with the clearest turquois water ever! The worst part was that the water was still pretty cold to actually go cliff diving or even for a swim, but we managed to sunbath a bit and relax.
Next to this beach was a smaller one, called “Cala Macarelleta” (‘-etta’ ending in Spanish meaning small). Getting there was a bit of a challenge, as it was through one of the rocks and it was so high that my fear of heights suddenly got unlocked and made me pretty terrified. Anyways, after literally walking knelt, we got there and the beach was so amazing that it was totally worth it!
There were a few people there, but at some point they left and it was just us and our friend the seagulls. I have previous bad experience with these birds chasing me, so I am not the biggest fan of their, but still it was nice to literally be surrounded just by nature. After quite a bit of time just sitting there, talking and enjoying the view, we decided to head back to “Cala Galdana”. When we reached the hotel, we realised that the whole hike today was around 10km, so you should definitely be prepared and bring food and water.
Although I was tired, I felt pretty energetic and we continued our day by the hotel’s pool. There was nobody by the pool at that time and it was so relaxed and the best place to spend the afternoon and welcome the sunset.
After the golden hour we went to our room and the hotel staff had left us the cutest surprise ever: champagne, macaroons and the nicest note ever! It was right what we needed after a long day out in the sun! We sat at the terrace and enjoyed the last bit of daylight, enjoying the surprise and then we left for dinner.
The food was more than amazing and I was so happy that they had so many fresh fruits and vegetables, but the most incredible thing was the cheesecake! I literally fell in love!!!
For all the ‘Friends’ addicts, it was literally like:
