Hello, my lovelies.
For the past five years I have been constantly moving from one place to another and this made me realise that I am the type of person who gets easily tired from doing the same thing. That’s why I truly love exploring new places and restaurants not only abroad, but also in my hometown Sofia.
Personally for me the Bulgarian traditional cuisine and the culturally rich dining places are the best and my favourite such place in Sofia is “Manastirska Magernitsa”. However, as there are a lot such lists and rankings, I decided to make a more different and alternative Sofia food guide.
I have been asked to do this guide for quite a while, especially by internationals visiting Sofia, but I wanted to first try them and then share my personal experience, rather than just recommend you restaurants I haven’t been to.
As all the restaurants are really good, I didn’t want to make a ranking and thus the list is in an absolutely random order.
Made in Blue
This blue house in the centre of Sofia offers not only traditional dishes with a touch of modernism, but also a rather unique interior design. I have been there a few times and I tried the zucchini pasta, the seafood and some of the desserts and they are more than amazing. What I love most about this place is the antique, traditional and quite communistic design, which literally takes me back in time to when I was a small kid at my grandparents’ house. I truly believe this place would be super interesting for people who never had any experience with communistic elements.
Jasmine Gastro Bar
I found that place this winter and I loved it so much, we went back quite a few times. The nice thing about this restaurant is that the first floor is a very cosy restaurant with very delicious food and the second floor is a very nice chill bar. The food is very nice and I really recommend the potato pie, it was so good. Another nice thing about this place is the cocktails list. The bartender has transformed some very traditional cocktails into a unique modern and very tasty experience.
Q-feteria
Compatible with its name in Bulgarian, this place offers the widest variety of dishes with different meatballs. I really loved their cute vegetarian meatballs and the awesome chicken soup served in a pan. Apart from the very delicious and quite traditional food, the location is extremely nice. It is in a house in the centre of Sofia with a cute garden in-between the building filled with graffiti walls and small lights. It is so cosy and is really one of the cutest places to have dinner in the warm summer nights.
Tabiet
For me this place has its sentimental touch, because for five years now I go there with my family the night before my flights. I prefer vegetarian meals, but my sister and everyone else around me are truly obsessed with the meat there, mostly the one on the picture. Apart from that, of course they have amazing salads and unique homemade bread filled with cheese inside, which is honestly my favourite thing!
Hamburguesa Nostra
This is literally the hamburger heaven! The restaurant offers so many hamburger options, that it is hard to actually choose. I decided to try the mini burgers with fries and they were not only the cutest, but were also super delicious. I really appreciated the fact that even a meat orientated place like this offered amazing vegetarian burger options.
Ribs Brothers
This place is located on one of the main streets in Sofia, more precisely Vitosha Bulevard, and is such a cute and relaxing place for dinner. I didn’t really have the full “Ribs Brothers” experience, as I didn’t eat meat there. However, as my friends told me the ribs were very good and that’s why I decided to include it in this list. In addition to that, the fries there and the two salads I tried were awesome.
Take a cake
I know this is not a dinning spot, but I couldn’t not mention my new most favourite place in Sofia! This is a cute cupcake’s place which has literally every single cupcake taste you could think of!!! If you know me personally, you would know that I have a serious sweet tooth and I can honestly say that this place has the most delicious cupcakes ever.
PS. My favourite ones are vanilla and red velvet and I really recommend them to you!
Unfortunately, I have been told about a few other good restaurants, but I didn’t have time to visit them! I would check them out and let you know if they are worth it!
I hope this food guide helps you to get a better experience when visiting my favourite city Sofia!
