The winter season is usually associated only with amazing festive mood, Christmas and New Year celebrations and cosy time with your loved ones. However, we should also acknowledge that winter brings dry air, cold wind and severe difference between the negative temperatures outside and heating everywhere inside. All of those are factors, which can definitely harm even the strongest and healthiest skin and hair. For this reason, it is crucial to pay attention to your winter beauty care.
Personally, my skin gets really dry in the cold seasons and my hair just starts loosing its healthy look and shine. Having tried a number of different ways to protect my skin and hair, I know how hard it is to actually find a method that works. That’s why, I decided to share with you some both organic and pharmaceutical winter beauty care products, which I personally use.
PS. This is not an advertisement for any of the following products.
Organic Products
As many of you may know the natural coconut and argan oils are proven to have magically beneficial content not only for beauty purposes, but also for healthy culinary, cellular health, tissue repair and even for heart issues. There are numerous ways that you could use both the coconut and argan oil, but in this blog post I will show you exactly why these two oils are called the liquid gold for beauty in the winter season.
The two oils are rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, which helps the skin and hair retain their moisture content, repair dead hair and skin cells and restore the skin’s hydrolipidic layer. Applied on the skin, these two magical oils can protect us from the severe weather conditions, give us the healthy glow and at the same time prevent premature aging. You can apply either of the oils daily on the whole face as a moisturiser or around the eyes to get rid of black circles. Furthermore, the coconut oil could be used on a cotton pad as an organic makeup remover to clean and moisturize your skin.
For the hair you can use both the coconut and argan oil (together or separately) as a hair mask or as a leave on conditioner, in order to prevent it from getting dry, brittle and tangled. As they are both oils, it is important that you do not apply them on the roots of your hair, because it might grease your hair. Personally, as my hair starts falling a lot in winter, I tried the coconut oil as a mask together with olive oil. With the olive oil locking the natural hair moisture inside and the coconut oil actually repairing its damaged cells, the mask proved to be one of my personal favourites for the cold seasons.
Pharmaceutical Products
Although I really prefer using organic products for my skin and hair care, I have a few pharmaceutical products that I just love and use all year round. First of all, my all-time favourite is the La Roche-Posay ‘Toleriane Ultra’, which I can honestly say is the best day and night moisturizing cream for sensitive skin. It feels very light on the skin, but at the same time protects and soothes the skin perfectly during all seasons. Last winter I decided to also the Avène ‘Cold Cream’, as dermatologists told me that it is also good for dry and sensitive skin in very cold weather. I managed to do an optimal test, as we went skiing and spent whole days outside in the severe Serbian -25°C. I can say that even tough it is a bit heavy for everyday use, it was definitely the best skin care for freezing days like those.
When it comes to makeup remover, I prefer using the coconut oil in the summer and the Bioderma ‘Sensibio H2O’ micellar solution in the winter. I don’t know exactly why I, but for me this routine works better than using just one of the two for whole year.
It’s the same for my hair, I like to mix the organic masks with other hair oils, which I on the ends of my hair after each shower. While traveling, I have tried a lot of different brands, but now I am using the Kèrastase ‘Elixir Ultime’ and I really like the way it protects my hair, prevents it from tangling and makes it shine.
I hope you also like my winter hair and skin beauty care and that you actually learned something from it.
