It is always very hard to make the best decisions, when you are about to visit a new country or place. That is the reason I decided to share with you our Canary Islands Travel Guide from April 2017.

I love traveling to islands, beaches and other very popular summer destinations in April. This period is so much calmer, less crowded and thus it is more pleasurable to explore and actually enjoy your holiday.

In the beginning of April last year, we decided to visit the Canary Islands and more precisely the island Gran Canaria. Immediately when we landed in Las Palmas, I fell in love with the place. It represented a beautiful mixture between Spanish and Moroccan style, filled with palm trees and sunshine.

When going to any one of the Canary Islands, I really suggest you rent a car, because the distances are not that big, the roads are very organized and this makes it so much easier to actually explore the whole island.

We used a company called ‘Orlando’ and we ended up very happy with their services. However, you should be careful, because most of the parking spots are actually paid. Local people told us that if you buy one ticket for 3 hours and one ticket for 1 hour, which approximately cost around 3 euros, you can stay the whole day. Bear in mind, that this might have changed by now.

The Canary Islands are obviously famous for their unique sandy beaches and turquois water. When it comes to that, the best idea is to just travel around the coast line and explore as much beaches as you can, because they are all extremely beautiful. However, if you don’t have time to do that, these are the two beaches I really fell in love with: ‘Anfi del Mar’ and ‘Playa de Amadores’.

‘Anfi del Mar’ is very close to a city, called Los Caideros’, and is actually accessible through the Anfi del Mar resort. For sure there is a reason for this place to be referred to as one of the jewels of Gran Canaria. It is an amazing sandy beach with clear turquois water and a lot of good restaurants, bars and extremely good ice-cream places right by the beach. On the other side of the beach there is the marina ‘Maroa Club de Mar’, which was not only super beautiful, but was also preventing waves to come to the beach. We honestly loved it so much and I think it was my favourite place on the island!!

The other beach ‘Playa de Amadores’ was in the city Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria. The road to there is through a very high cliff, which reveals amazing views of the sea. The beach was quite big, with shallow turquois water and amazing sand. It was so relaxed and calm, but I guess it gets very busy during the summer season.

We also visited a city, called Mogán. We went there for a small adventure, more precisely to go on a yellow submarine. We didn’t expect at all, but the city turned out to be so gorgeous with such small streets, white house with colourful flowers on them and an amazing small marina. We loved it so much that we ended up strolling around, taking pictures and exploring each and every part for hours.

Thankfully, we didn’t miss the submarine. Once we entered the submarine, I even felt kind of claustrophobia. However, when I saw all the fishes and the extremely unique underwater life, I completely forgot about my initial feelings. There were so many different fishes, sea life and even a shipwrecked boat. Although in the beginning I was so scared, I can honestly say that I will remember this experience forever and that it was totally worth it.

I didn’t want to make one very long blog post and as there is a lot more I would like to share with you about the Canary Islands, I will soon post a Part II of this travel guide.

Subscribe to be informed when “Canary Islands Travel Guide Part II” is published!
